The streets of Msheireb have a long and important history. Al Kahraba Street was the first street where electricity flowed and shop fronts were lit with neon signs.
Al Kahraba Street 1950’s encompassed: the first electrical power station in Doha, “Saida Bakery”, shops like “Modern Home”. Abdulla Bin Thani Street contained the first bookstore “Alurooba Library”, the first ice factory and the first public park, established in 1955. The first traffic light was installed in Al Rayan Street in the 1960’s.
During Ramadan, these historic streets would transform with special decorations becoming gathering places for families. The spiritual ambiance of Ramadan added another layer of significance to Msheireb’s streets, further cementing their role as the social and cultural guide us towards the future with “Msheireb Downtown Doha”.
