M7 brings the world’s most prominent design event Milan Design Week to Doha. In 2022, Qatari and Doha based designers displayed an authentic set of furniture that were unique and non-conformist. Their creations feature timeless aesthetics and original materials to create a more livable, and a more sustainable world that sends a message of the importance of preserving cultural identity in the face of rapid globalization.
FROMM exhibits the ‘Shurouq’ collection, designed in collaboration with Maryam Suwaidi and Shua’a Ali. In collaboration with FROMM, the designers expanded their artistic vision inspired by Qatar’s natural and cultural history to create a contemporary furniture collection. The eight-piece collection was first launched in their Milan-based showroom during Milan Design Week 2022.” ‘Melting Pottery’ by the MFA in Design program at VCU arts Qatar is an art collection that re-envisions the humble ceramic vessel used to store and transport goods centuries ago in the Middle East and other regions. Starting from this notion of the ceramic vessels as artifacts that connect different cultures as well as exploring 3D printing technology, the collection is a testimony to technology as well as heritage.Shaikha Al Sulaiti makes a statement on the importance for consumers to know where their materials are coming from, especially in fashion. The ‘Freedom Bench’ made from recycled Hermes Birkin bags highlights the word FREEDOM – a strong message to break free from societal standards and expectations to find new ways to make the world a better place.‘Eggo’ utilizes the existing form of an egg crate to spread awareness on single-use materials. This thought-provoking piece by Nada Elkharashi was funded by Qatar Museums from an open-call theme ‘Reuse, Recycle and Reduce.’ They were all on display at the Rossana Orlandi Gallery during the Milan Design Week 2022.
